Hi everyone and welcome to One Hour Impressions, where I consume an hour’s worth of some media and give you my first impressions on the work.
This week I’m giving my first impressions on Lee Childs's debut novel, Killing Floor.
Ex-military police officer Jack Reacher gets off a greyhound bus in the small town of Margrave, Georgia. Shortly after hitting the town, he is picked up by the police, charged with murder. While in custody, he finds out his brother has been murdered. Now with the chief of detectives and lone officer at his side, Reacher vows to find his brother's killer and bring him to justice.
How far I got in an hour
After an hour of reading, I reached about a third of the way into the book. With myself not being the fastest reader in the world, other readers may reach further into the book after an hour. At this point in the book, the establishing stakes of the novel have been set with the central mystery of the plot in motion and the characters working on trying to solve the mystery.
My impressions of the book so far
The mystery that the plot raises is very enticing and interesting. With most murder mysteries I have a vague idea about where the plot is going and how the mystery is going to be solved at about the same point I’m at with Killing Floor. At this point in the book, I have absolutely no idea where the book is going to go from here and how the mystery will be solved. The pace of the book is quite fast so the book doesn’t feel like it drags along while the suspense in the mystery builds.
Will I be continuing to read?
Yes, I will absolutely continue reading this book until the very end. The mystery is compelling and Lee Child’s writing makes the work easy to read and keeps the pace flowing. I really enjoyed it and I look forward to finding out how the book ends. I’ve read other books in the Jack Reacher series, loved them and I have a feeling I’m going to love this one as well.
Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you enjoyed the impressions and if you did, please share it around. You can also read my other blog posts here.
